Today was my fourth lesson of my pattern projects 5 day course at Craftland.
From the previous lesson, I had some trouble sewing a straight lined stich on my waistband which was going to be sewed onto the skirt so I continued with that today.
Pre-hand I drew a line around the waistband and when I started sewing it was much easier as I could focus on sewing only on the line and I had control of it and I ended up with a good sewed line. Mrs.Stephanie told me that after this, I had to hand sew the waistband because it would look professional and since I had never hand sewn before, she told me that she would teach me in tomorrow’s lesson.
The last step of the skirt was to do the bottom hemline. I ironed and folded the fabric twice upwards to create a thick hemline and I just sewed this up and I was done with my skirt. I ironed the whole finished skirt just to take out creases and tomorrow I will hand sew the waistband. Overall I think the hard part of the skirt was actually just sewing on the waistband as when making clothing, your lines and cuts have to be perfect.

The next project I decided to work on was a bag because I did not have enough time to sew a blouse. The materials required for the bag were:
1 yard of lining fabric – white
1 yard of fabric for outside of bag
1 meter green fabric for stripes
One plastic rectangle for the base
First I cut up 3 long strips of green fabric and two long and thick strips of green fabric for the handles
Then I cut two 13 x 17 inch pieces of white fabric for my lining and the outside of the bag
I then sewed the three long strips on the outside of the fabric so that they went all the way around the fabric
I also sewed the two strips of fabric for the handle onto the outside of the fabric. I then placed the plastic rectangle in the middle of the bag and then placed the lining adjoining to the bag and sewed the sides and bottom.
The time for the lesson to end had come so I had to pack up but I knew that tomorrow I would have completed the bag and learn how to handsew to finish off the top hem in my skirt.
