Our Year Group was introduced to the Personal Project as a whole by the PP Coordinator Mrs. Kerry Wahba and the MYP Coordinator, Mrs Eleanor Scarr. Slowly, I began to absorb the information in and came to a conclusion and made a quick list of the key points of the Personal Project!
· It is a must to pass the Personal Project or else, you will not be entering the Diploma Program!
· You should pick something that is of great personal interest to you as you should be willing to work many hours on that one thing throughout your whole summer and more!
· The topic could be something that you already love or something that you wish to do, perhaps maybe learning a new skill or improving on an existing one.
· You will be assigned a Supervisor to be your personal instruction guide and make sure that you meet your deadlines and help you make the right choices
· You will need to record your investigation, planning and creation stages in a process journal as this is one of the key elements!
· In the end, you will also be writing an essay about your project as a whole including your process journal
We received our red PP guidebooks as well to give us more information and I had a quick read through it.
I had already planned out my ideas in December as I knew that I wanted to do something related to fashion and style. Why? Because I have an evergrowing interest for it and its changed me as a person physically and emotionally ,and I run two fashion blogs which are quite well known locally. I also asked a few close friends of mine and my family and they all suggested I stick with that theme as I excel at it the best.
My ideas:
Create my own organic clothing using eco friendly textiles and donate them to charities in India or Africa. This idea was inspired by Australian Model and activist Isabel Lucas who constantly aids underprivileged children to give them a better life.
My second idea was, what Haute Couture ( High Fashion ) means to different cultures like the Indian and French Cultures. I thought if I chose this idea I could get actual couture pieces from India from my grandma as it would be a good visual aspect of my project.
My third and last idea was to learn a new skill which would benefit me in terms of fashion related things and it was sewing. Alongside that, I would design and sew my own clothing which reflected my personal style.
Which one did I choose? I had a good session with Mrs Wahba who happened to be my Personal Project coordinator today and she explained to me that the first two ideas have a lot of difficult stages to go through and I may or may not finish them off before February so I decided to go with the last idea as it would benefit me in the long term as I can sew my own clothes which I would wear and it would save me a lot of money and I could pursue a career in designing if I have a knack for sewing.
