27th December: Part 2 of silk print pants

/ Thursday, February 14, 2013 /
Today was another General clinic class at Craftland, Jumeirah Town Centre which I attended to complete my silk print pants and start working on my leather skirt.

On the 25th I had cut out the fabric pieces and in today's lesson I started off by sewing the inner legs and long sides of the two front pieces and the two back pieces. I had no major problem with this as it only required a straight stitch and a zig-zag stitch to secure the fabric. The only problem I faced was that sometimes the two fabric pieces would not match up in the ends as one front piece was smaller than the other front piece and I figured this might have been because of the cutting but Mrs.Danielle told me to just pull the fabric to match it up and not worry about it too much since the pants are supposed to be loose and this is my first time sewing long pants.

I could have used a rotary cutter but it is much more dangerous and I have previously sliced my skin thrice when cutting something else so I am a bit scared but hopefully in the future I use it with more caution.

Next, I took the sewn backside fabric and put it inside the sewn frontside fabric which basically looked like putting a layer of pants into another layer of pants but obviously without the crotch area sewn.

Next I pinned the crotch area fabric together and sewed that and then turned the pants inside out and my pants were done. I then had to just hem the bottom and a make an elastic waistband which I said I could finish off at home because I had previously done it  before and the time for my class was over.

In the last couple of minutes I cut out my skirt pattern pieces for my leather skirt which I will be making on the 29th  of December.
