Today was my second lesson of pattern projects and I was really excited to get started on my skirt as it would officially be the first garment that I would have ever sewn in my life.
I had thought of bringing my Janome sewing machine but it weighed a lot and I did not have a proper case to carry out so I rented the same brother machine I had rented for my first course back in July.
After all that, I started off by ironing all my fabric pieces excluding the two interfacing pieces as these would be attached onto the waistline further down along the way. Next by using a tracing wheel, a ruler and a pencil I drew two darts in the front at the top for the front side patterned fabric and two darts for the backside patterned fabric. This was done to give it a feminine look by adding the effect of pleats.
Next on the backside patterned fabric I opened up the middle of the fabric by ironing it and this was done to allow a space for the zipper to be sewed onto. I then took the frontside pattered fabric and backside patterned fabric and sewed them on the two sides, right sides of the fabric facing together. Next it was time to insert the zipper. I placed the zipper on the middle partition I had made on the fabric and sewed two lines on each side of the zipper going from up to down and then using a picker, I removed the outside lines of each side of the zipper leaving only the inside lines on each side. This was done to make the zipper’s sewing lines not visible because that would not look aesthetically pleasing.
At one point I was removing the wrong line but Mrs.Stephanie thankfully stopped me before I had ruined the whole zipper and I had to re do it. It was frustrating but I learnt from my mistake.
The next thing I did was sewing my four fabric waistband pieces all together to create one long waistband and I then ironed on my interfacing to it and it immediately stuck to it because of the heat. The next step was actually sewing on the waistband to the skirt. I had to first make a folded hem to give it a clean polished look and I put the whole waistband around the top of the skirt and pinned it onto place. I started sewing the waistband on but my lines were going wonky as this was the first time I was sewing in a curved sort of motion and Mrs.Stephanie told me that it would be easier if I drew a line along where I wanted to sew and I did. Soon, the lesson ended so I am hoping to finish the waistband and hemline of the skirt tomorrow and start a new project

I really like all the great detail here. You need to figure out how Miss Stephanie will become one of your research resources, so that you can use her expertise in your written report. Keep up the good work! Mrs. W>
Good work...but now you need to continue to post blogs that relate this to your actual project as a whole. It will be a novel way to keep a process journal!
